From Our Beginnings to Today
How did it all start?
The concept of club vacations originated in the 1950s when a Belgian set up tents in the pine forest of Alcudia on Mallorca and began offering recreational activities to guests staying there. We opened our first resort in 1973 in Senegal. That’s also how we came up with our name. Aldiana comes from the Wolof language, one of Senegal’s most important languages, and means “the place where happy people feel at home.”
Our second resort followed in 1982 on Fuerteventura. Back then, the concept of a club vacation was still completely different. The clubs advertised the option of nudity—at mealtimes, only a pareo, a cloth wrapped around the hips, was required.
Other resorts came and went, but our philosophy never changed. To this day, we bring the spirit embodied in our name to the most beautiful spots in the mountains and by the sea.
We want to encourage vacationers to enjoy themselves with all their senses and, in doing so, experience moments of happiness in a casual and relaxed way. “No obligations, endless possibilities”—that’s our motto. Our resorts are intimately sized and often exude the charm of a small village in their respective vacation regions.
