The correct calculation of CO2e emissions depends on many factors, including the underlying principles and established guidelines for scopes of application, system boundaries, calculation methods, trip data, and technical databases for emission factors and modes of transport. These factors are transparently published in the KlimaLink Standard documentation. They align with best practices in CO2 accounting and the current state of scientific knowledge. The climate-friendly annual budget of 1.5 metric tons of CO2 per person is intended to serve as a guideline for the average amount of CO2 emissions each person should “consume” in order to limit global warming to below 1.5°C compared to pre-industrial levels.
